World Wide Knit in Public Day 2019
8 June 2019
For the last several years the coffee shop (Bookends Coffee Shop now Tabby's Coffee) in the Everett Public Library- Main Branch has graciously hosted knitters and crocheters for this annual event. If you want to knit while socializing, learn how to knit or crochet or even learn a new technique from an old pro, come and sit with us while sipping a delicious treat from the coffee shop. Time & Place: Everett Public Library - Main branch (corner of Everett & Hoyt); 10 am - 2 pm History: World Wide Knit in Public Day was started in 2005 by Danielle Landes. It began as a way for knitters to come together and enjoy each other's company. Knitting is such a solitary act that it's easy to knit alone somewhere and sink into your work without thinking about all the other knitters out there. Neighbors could spend all their lives never knowing that the other knits. WWKiP Day is really about showing the general public that knitting can be a community activity in a very distinct way. In some places there are many different knitting groups that never interact with each other, on WWKiP Day they come together in one place, making them hard to miss. In 2005, there were about 25 local events around the world. In 2006, there were about 70 local events, by 2007 there were almost 200 and it has continued to grow to over 700 registered events by 2009. WWKiP 2015

The Everett Public Library has invited the guild to create a display for the first few weeks in June, to correspond with World Wide Knit in Public Day. We are looking for volunteers to help us plan and create this display. If you have some fun ideas and would like to help us out, please contact President.
We will be having an event sometime between 8 June - 16 June in the Snohomish County area. We will post that information as soon as we have secured a location and decided upon a day.

WWKiP 2012
9 June 2012 - Many of the guild members, along with individual knit group members met at the Everett Public Library for a day of knitting. The atmosphere was cozy and fun in their coffee shop. The library had joined in on the fun with some wonderful knitting displays, and many of their employees joining in the fun and sharing their knitting through out the library. It was a day full of fun, sharing our passion with those around us. We are excitedly looking forward to next year.

President 2009 - 201118 June 2011 - Yesterday was the perfect day - wet, cold, rainy - to sit and knit! 30-40 knitters from all over came to the Seattle Center - Center house to meet up and have a knit out. We had tags (placards) that we placed on the tables so passers-by could see why we knit. The location was busy, but not too, we had live music as a backdrop, and the scent of fresh bread filled the air.
We handed out about 40 New Knitter Kits (small skeins of yarn + tea + resources info + Snohomish Knitters Guild contact info) and sent the last 10 or so home with a knitter who teachers boys to knit. All will be put to good use.We showed the public that knitters come in all flavors, and perhaps, showed folks they can do it too.
This was my last "hurrah" (event) as your SKG President. It's been great fun getting the guild set up and going. We've knit in oh-the-most-interesting places together. I can't wait to see how the guild evolves - and I'll be there, in the peanut gallery, cheering the next wave of officers on. -- Charisa
