Snohomish Knitters Guild

Officer Information

The Snohomish Knitters Guild is a volunteer organization. Currently, the guild has a Board of Officers consisting of five persons, with positions added or deleted as determined by a majority of the Board.

Expectations of Board Officers and designated Committee Chairs:
  1. Each board position is held for a minimum of one year, with the term of office beginning October 1st and ending September 30th of the following year. No elected position shall be held by the same individual for a period of more than two consecutive years.
  2. The Vice President is strongly encouraged to remain on the board a second year, serving as President during their second term.
  3. Regular attendance at board meetings and monthly Guild meetings is expected.
  4. Committee Chairs and Special Project Coordinators are strongly encouraged to attend scheduled board meetings.
  5. Personal email accounts shall not be used to set up guild related web accounts or to conduct guild business. Position specific email accounts are assigned to each board officer and most committee chairs to create and maintain a working archive of guild business and decisions.
  6. All elected board officers and designated committee chairs must maintain a consistent presence online, checking email regularly and assisting with monitoring Facebook and Ravelry postings as needed.
  7. Individuals wishing to hold the offices of President and Treasurer must be willing to have a background check done prior to the election.

Board Officer positions are (as defined by our Bylaws): 
Note: first five positions are elected by the SKG members, the remainders of the positions are appointed by the President in agreement with the SKG board (exceptions noted below.)

OFFICERS AND DUTIES
  1. The officers of the SKG shall consist of a President, a Vice President, a Secretary, a Treasurer and a Member-at-large. Terms of the office for each officer shall be for one (1) year.
  2. The President shall preside at all meetings of the membership, all meetings of the Board of Directors, and shall have ex officio status on any committee established by the SKG. The President, with the advice and consent of the Board of Directors, shall appoint all standing committee chairpersons with the exception of the Programs, Nominating, and Finance committees. 
  3. The Vice President shall assist the President and serve in the absence of the President. The Vice President shall serve as the chairman of the SKG program committee. The Vice President shall have the option and be encouraged to hold the office of the President in the subsequent term to provide continuity in leadership.
  4. The Secretary shall keep minutes of all proceedings of meetings of the membership and the Board of Directors. The Secretary shall take care of the correspondence at the direction of the President. The Secretary shall keep accurate and current lists of members in good standing, together with their current contact information.
  5. The Treasurer shall receive and disburse all monies and present a statement of the current financial condition at all meetings of the Board of the SKG. The Treasurer shall insure that any SKG membership forms are forwarded to the Secretary and dues collected from the Guild membership shall be deposited in the SKG bank account. The Treasurer shall serve as the chairman of the SKG finance committee.
  6. The Member-At-Large shall serve as Chair of the Nominating Committee and shall be a member of the Membership Committee. 

Description of the Non-elected Officer positions:

The Membership Chair shall answer inquiries about the organization received by phone, letter, email, or web site, shall welcome new members and visitors at monthly meetings. Shall carry out all necessary correspondence to foster and encourage membership enrollment. 

The Newsletter  Editor shall seek and compile entries from members for the monthly newsletter on fiber arts related news and events, and shall publish a monthly online newsletter no later than one week prior to the monthly Guild meeting.

The Webmaster shall develop and maintain the Snohomish Knitters Guild website,  http://www.snohomishknittersguild.org

The Knit New(s) Chair shall select a topic to explore and share by way of an oral presentation, with guild members at the monthly meeting.

The Librarian shall support the creation and maintenance of an online library  [un]library.com

Occasionally volunteers are recruited for short-term projects or single events. To volunteer or find out about volunteer opportunities, please contact any of the Board members, whose names and e-mail addresses are always published on the SKG Web site and the SKG Online Newsletter. In addition you can sign up for a committee online on the website.
