August 8, 2023 - Broomstick Lace with Sonia S.. Colored Cables with Barb S. & Board Nominations
We will be announcing the nominations for our new board at the August meeting and two of our members will be showing us a new, to some, craft and colored cable technique. Sonia S. will be teaching us Broomstick lace. If you are planning on participating with Sonia at the meeting, you will need to bring the following:
- Large knitting needles or crochet hook (size 15 or above), a broomstick (if you have one) or dowels (they work great as well).
- Skein of worsted weight yarn
- Crochet hook suitable for the weight of the yarn.
The colored cable technique will be taught by Barb S. and you will need to bring:
- Two contrasting colors of yarn, a light and a dark work best together. - Worsted or Aran weight is suggested, with a needle size between 7 - 9, your choice, however, if you prefer a different weight yarn, just bring the appropriate sized needles for that yarn.
- A few stitch markers.
[Direct from Barb] Please browse Ravelry or this link https://www.knittingunlimited.com/search/label/cable and find a cable pattern that you’d like to make. For this project I recommend a simple cable pattern unless you’re already experienced in doing complex cables. We’ll be starting a dishcloth or scarf, so just pick one that’s appropriate for these projects. You can even get a head start by casting on the required number of stitches for your chosen pattern and doing several rows of garter stitch. If you don’t want your side edges to roll, be sure to cast on an extra 3-4 stitches for each edge which will be done in garter stitch. Something in the range of 40 stitches would be great for this project.
Your cable pattern can be very simple, and you can fill the sides with garter or stockinette stitches to get the width that you want.
Meeting Place: Waltz Bldg in Snohomish, WA
Doors Open: 6pm (for set up and casual socializing); meeting begins at 7pm
Meeting Ends: between 8:30 and 9pm
Street parking
Hope to see you there!
Wearing masks is recommended as we do have members with compromised immune systems.
