The Dering Chapel in Pluckley Church
Summary
[edit]| DescriptionThe Dering Chapel in Pluckley Church - geograph.org.uk - 1303885.jpg |
English: The Dering Chapel in Pluckley Church Numerous members of the Dering family lie buried in the Dering Chapel. Pluckley has the reputation of being the most haunted village in England and the chapel is one of the places which is always on ghost hunters itineraries. A strange, dancing light has frequently been seen in the upper section of a window and it is often accompanied by the sound of knocking coming from the family vault under the floor.
In the early 1970s, a group of psychic researchers persuaded the rector to allow them to spend a night locked inside the church. When the vicar came to let them out the next morning they complained of having spent an uneventful night, the boredom of which had been alleviated only by the vicars dog, who had come to visit them from time to time. The vicar then pointed out that he didnt have a dog! |
